Everything’s growing
After our bit of sunshine for the last few days, everything is grand on the allotment. The carrots are a thick, frilly green line, the parsnips' leaves are broadening out and the peas are reaching tall for the canes and string.
A few baby leaves on the cabbage and brussel sprouts seedlings have been nibbled. Following advice from Chris (in the comments) we marched to the allotment armed with string and CDs.

Whether ducks or pheasants are the culprits of the nibbled broccoli or not, we were not taking any chances and bought some powdered bird deterrent to water on the brassica bed.
The runner and climbing beans were taken down to the plot today and planted in the their final homes beside the peas. Only one bean of each type failed to germinate on the bathroom windowsill and the successful seedlings have grown to about 4" tall in the greenhouse in the last four days.
It has been a grand couple of days on the allotment in the sunshine. Mainly taken up with general weeding and hoeing up the potatoes which are sprouting leaves at a rate of knots.
Sowed 7 runner beans and 6 climbing beans today as the weather has been too wet to do much at the allotment other than check it was not washed or blown away.
It was a quick visit down the allotment after work this evening. I emptied the watering can 8 times over our little seedlings in the dry earth.
My one success has been the huckleberries. Fifty odd seedlings have been acclimatising in the greenhouse for the last ten days but they have outgrown the shallow seed trays and now it is time to pot them on.
